BH4BP #20 – Caffeine: You Can Use It, But Don’t Abuse It

Most of us like to start our morning with a caffeinated beverage, such as, coffee, tea, hot chocolate, an energy drink or a soft drink.  We love our caffeine because it helps to wake us up in morning and keep us from getting tired later in the day.  Yet most of us worry that we might be getting too much caffeine. In this show, I discuss what exactly caffeine is, how it effects our body, how much is too much and some common myths related to caffeine intake.

Some references I used in the research for this show are the Mayo Clinic, WebMd and Wikipedia.

I end the show with a question from Cynthia regarding aversions to fruits and vegetables because of their texture.  I referenced nutrition.about.com while answering this question.

    My goodness. I wondered about my caffeine intake. I start every morning with an Energy drink, either Monster or RockStar (both sugar free) that contain about 250 mgs of caffeine. After that, I probably drink another 3 12 oz. cans of Diet Mt. Dew up until dinner time.

    I know I have a problem and it definitely seems like I am addicted to it. Is that possible?

    New Year’s resolution – cut WAY back on caffeine.

    hello, i just listened to the show on caffeine. i read somewhere that caffeine/coffee constricts blood vessels and reduces the flow of blood to your Ears.. Does this mean that coffee is bad for your ears or can contribute to hearing loss? thanks for your time.. do well

    @caffeinEars You are right, coffee consumption can constrict blood vessels and blood flow to the head. However, I have not found any studies yet that link coffee intake to hearing loss.
