My hearing is very important to me. Thanks for the great information you provided in this podcast. Having played in bands over the years, and having been to many concerts, I concur with a lot of Richard posted in the previous comment. People don't realize how damaging live music can be to their ears until it's too late.

I usually carry two sets of professional earplugs when doing live sound. Any major pro-sound or music shop carries a wide variety of era protection. Most bars with live bands, in Illinois, are required to have the foam earplugs. The band I was mixing for kept complaining that they could not hear the monitors. I went on stage during one of the songs and due to guitarists continuously turning up their amps, the metered level was 120 DB.

The last concert I went to was Alice Cooper at Hawthorne race track in Illinois about 6 years ago. I was about 100 feet from the stage. The person next to me said something to me, so when I turned my head to look at them, my right ear was towards the mains. I ended up with a ruptured eardrum and lost hearing in that ear for about a week.

Great show!
Richard

Hearing protection is extremely important.

Good podcast. I am always amazed how people listen to their music so loud that even though it is in their ears you can still ear the music. Whenever I say that their music is too loud they say that they like to listen to all the sounds.
