We all visit the doctor at some point in our lives, no matter how well we care for our health, whether it be for a check-up or to treat a medical condition.  When we do go, having a positive experience is very important for obtaining the best treatment possible.  Unfortunately, when many people need to choose a doctor, they are unsure how to select the right one.  So, they often just pick the closest one that takes their insurance and is accepting new patients.  And once they’ve selected a doctor, they don’t know how to take an active role in their own healthcare.  Neither that patient selection process nor that passive relationship with the doctor is optimal.  So, today I’ll discuss some considerations when selecting a health care practitioner, how to improve communication and when to seek a second opinion.

Some references I used while researching this show are The New Wellness Encyclopedia and about.com.

I picked my current doctor pretty much just based on the name and the fact that he accepts the insurance I had at the time. Not really the best way to do that, but it’s worked out well so far.

  2. Maria Isabel says:

Whenever I go to see my doctor I make sure that I am ready with everything that I need. If I forget anything, I know that I can e-mail her or call to get further information.

  3. Mrs. Life says:

I see a lot of many serious doctors around and I’m lucky to have a funny and very down to earth doctor. Of course apart from mastering his craft and knowing what he does, he still manages to make me laugh especially in some of my painful times in his clinic. What’s cool about your doctor?
