Cardiovascular health should be a major concern for all Americans. Genetic dispositions may also increase the risk of getting the disease. People that live a healthy life have a much reduced risk.

Daily exercise will go a long way in boosting heart health. It only takes about 10,000 steps per day to maintain good health. Cardiovascular experts recommend a minimum of 150 minutes of exercise per week. That is all it takes to maintain a strong and healthy heart and prevent heart disease. Staying healthy isn’t as hard as it seems. Eat plenty of fresh food, move your body and avoid alcohol and cigarettes.

Changing your lifestyle may sound boring or difficult, but it is worth it to be healthy for many more decades to come. Heart disease will cut your life short and contribute to your suffering. Clogged arteries and heart attacks are not only life threatening, they are also very expensive. Make the changes now to save yourself and your pocket book the pain later.

    Some examples of high fibre low fat food good for the heart which I would strongly encourage everyone to eat are:

    1. raspberries,
    2. pears,
    3. barley,
    4. whole wheat spaghetti,
    5. oatmeal,
    6. split peas,
    7. sunflower seeds,
    8. broccoli and carrots.

    For lunch, you may choose a large salad with grilled fish with low-fat salad dressing and some high fibre fruit. For dinner, get yourself a bean burrito and a side of steamed broccoli.

    As someone who has cardiovascular disease and had to completely change my diet,let me say your recommendations are very helpful. The only thing I would mention is that processed foods such as bread and pasta are the culprit for people who have high triglycerides. For many years I thought the fatty foods and oils were causing my high triglycerides but when I cut out the bread and pasta from my diet, my levels became normal. I think it is very important for everyone looking for a healthy cardiovascular diet to restrict their intake of bread and pasta.
